When I was in Japan, I was studying about oxygen tension measurement method by phosphorescence quenching technique. And I applied this technique to measure pO2 in cerebral microcirculation in rats and mice. I will give you more details later.

By the way, I did not do anything in this weekend because I would liketo concentrate to take care of my body. Weekday will be coming soon.

Although it is too late to introduce myself, I will do it today.

My name is Tatsuya Arai, and I'm 24 years old.
The purpose to come here is to enter the Ph.D course of UCSD.
However, I failed admission of Sep. 2005 because I supporse my TOEFL(English) score was shorter than UCSD's requisition.
At first, I have to obtain the TOEFL score, or nothing will start.

I graduated master course of KEIO univ. Sep. 2004.
Although it is no point here, my boast is that my graduation was harf year grade skipping.
I mean I was an only person to get it in my school.

After I graduated my school, I'd prepared very complex application for admission and J1 visa and studied TOEFL.

And I arrived here almost one month ago.
Now I am.

Compared the expence of food in here and Japan, I think the price of beef is cheeper than Japan. Although nowaday we can not eat American beef in Japan because of BSE, it doesn't matter for me.

And although I had asked to fix it through the International Center two weeks ago, I could obtain it today. It is too late.

At last, I can go to the SSN office. And I can do several proceeding.

By the way, we have the calendar other than A.D. in Japan. The calendar is based on the age of the emperor. When I was born, the age of the emperor was named Showa. And I was born in Showa 55th.
I reserved TOEFL test today, so I'm going to take the test at Apr. 29th.
TOEFL means the Test of English as a Foreign Language.
This score is an only proof of English skill for foreigners like me.
If you want to be admitted Ph.D. course at UCSD, you are required to take a score more than 213.

Although I have to study hard for TOEFL, this test is quite no fun.
I hate it.
I really hate an English test.

When I was a high school student, I always failed a exam of English class.
So, at that time I never thought that I would study abroad.
However, if I was a good student of English, I would have gone to a school of English literature.
I might be good at Shakespeare instead of Biomedical engineering.
I can't complain.

Because TOEFL test is usually used by admission for a university, the content of the test, especially for Listenning, is dealing about life in campus. Thus, we should also know about the culture of student in U.S.
If the content of TOEFL was mainly about medicine, engineering, and mathematics, I would have been able to take a proper score.
I can't complain.

You can take this test once in a month.
My score is still 193.
There is not much time.
I can't complain.

I think people here have a lot of small greeting each other.
And this is still one of my problem.

Because, I'm not used to greet somebody in a short time.
It does not meen that Japanese (and also I) is not friendly.
It just there is no such kind of custum in Japan.

So now I found one good way in front of a cash register in supermarket.
When I'm asked something greeting by somebady, I should answer "Pretty fine" without question.
And also I should say "How are you"without any moment.
So she or he maybe answer "good".
And the whole of greeting will be completed.

Greeting should be done with love.
It is a same principle in all over the world.
However, now I'm going to use this way automatically.

Someday I'd like to answer by other cool way.

Because it seams cycling is more popular here and line for cyclist is already prepared.
So it is very comfortable, I love to get on a bicycle here.

In a case of Japan, cycling a road bike is not popular in Japan. If you want to get on a road bike, you should fight against huge trafic, emission gas, and narrow lines. It is very dangerous.

However, it does not mean that I hate a Japanese road. The dangerous is sometimes amusing.

While I drive a car here, I 'm often asked which country is easier to drive.
I strongly answer for this question.
It is easier to drive here than in Japan.

Because, a lane here is wider and divers are kinder than in Japan. The difference, driving on a opposite lane, is doesn't really matter.

If you have a chance to drive a car in Japan. I'll pray for your safety drive.
There are too many cars. A lane is very narrow. Because almost route depends on an ancient route, it is usually bent and difficult to understand your facing direction. The free way is not free, because you need to purches to get on. Almost trafic signs are written in Chinese character.
